Tulsi Vivah significance

The season of weddings begins in India begins with Devutthana Ekadashi or the Tulsi Vivah day. because with this day, the Chaturmas period comes to an end. Usually, weddings and other auspicious ceremonies such as mundan, griha pravesh, roka, vivah, namkaran sanskar, etc are not organised during the Chaturmas period (that includes Shravana, Bhadrapada, Ashwina and Kartika months).

With this Ekadashi Tithi, the season of ceremonies begins.

It is said that Lord Vishnu, who is in a state of Yogic sleep under the Kshirasagara (cosmic ocean) for four months, rises on this day. Moreover, Shaligram married Tulsi, the sacred plant, to honour a boon that she was bestowed with during her previous birth.

On Tulsi Vivah day, the Tulsi plant and Shaligram are dressed like a bride and a groom, respectively, and all the rituals of a Hindu wedding are performed.
